Hey, as one poster pointed out, the key word in my op is 'FARM'. i.e. grinding away at it duo/solo just for ectos.
Didn't think about the trading thing, I tried it with some rarer minipets, and I guess with this ecto I have i could start trading weapons. Would have to pay very keen attention to all pricing I guess. Sounds like an interesting way to spend time in Guild Wars.....except I'm starting LOTRO Thanks for all responses guys, it's interesting. Scares me how much it would take to get all the currently released minipets that can't be earned. |

I think there was a guy on here that claims he can get 250 ectos in 5 days or less by soloing UW. If that is the case, then I guess to those few people, then 500 is nothing. Of course most people thought he was farfetched and laughed.
I'm pretty sure most players will never have 500 ectos in their posession at the same time, especially with the playerbase being mostly casual players. I myself am down to 1 Ecto and have been for awhile. I believe that I said before that I have gone out of my way to even naming my one and only ecto. I named him "Ecto 2". In a thread awhile back, I told my short story about how one day how my proud little ecto came up to me and said "How come I am named Ecto 2 when I am the only Ecto you have?" I replied to him by saying, "because you'll never be.. " But yeah...500 is a lot for a lot of people. I like to help people out a lot, especially guildies, so getting ectos sometimes gets put on the back burner. I find it more rewarding helping people than seeing my inventory of 500 ectos. I'll get things at my pace, so I'm never discouraged when someone has more of something or something better. Yay for them. All I can say to that person, is have fun with the ectos. i don't know any rich people, but i don't know that many ppl in the game anyway, even though i think round about every second players has 300k in his storage...
I guess i'll explain the type of guys the really rich ones are... i think most don't care about the latest skins, or they consider most ugly (nf armors or weapons in general) (which doesnt mean they dont have the skins they like, they just dont need any others). Moreover, i think most dont care about minipets... always having the newest is a pain, today everyone wants them, tomorrow there's a new one .. only to have 20 ppl crying in town "WHO HAS THAT 1337 MINIPET I BUY 80K". i even think most don't boast with their riches.. they just have them, lying in their storage. And thats what its about. The really rich ones only care about money .. getting richer and richer. They look at 500 Ectos in their storage and think "If i want, i could buy everything. everything, money rules the game after all." even those rank spamers, one could buy the same rank with money ... but who cares about rank after all? its all about ambition, nothing more. |

i only know that ever since titan gem farming came out, i could increase my collection of ectos in a enormously short period of time, simply selling each titan gem for between 8-10ectos! otherwise it takes ages, yes.
btw, that panda that is being auctioned is disturbingly at 1'000'000'000'000gold, there must be some serious BS going on there -.- |

It depends on how long you've been in the game. About 3-4 months after GW got released, everyone and their mother was solo monk farming UW and there was a good chance you'd get more than 2 ecto per run. It was easier to get ecto.
Then duo farming. A bit slower to farm them out since most of the time people shared and if they didn't, it seemed like you were always the one without ecto at the end. Farming nerf: ecto are really slow to get unless you live on your computer in Euro servers where you have favor for most of the daylight hours. Usually, players acquire them now through trading items/selling items and ecto are involved in deal. Personally, I was around since day 1 so ecto were plentiful. |
